Your Funds
Are Safe And Now Insured To $250,000
YEFCU Is A Safe Haven For Your
Savings, Investments, And Retirement Funds
The deposit insurance provided by NCUA for
our credit union members is the same as FDIC insurance for
bank customers, except that credit unions fund the NCUA
Share Insurance Fund with deposits of 1% of their members'
insured shares rather than paying an annual insurance
premium, as banks do.

PA Credit Union Association
Launches iBelong Campaign
The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association has rolled out its 18-month, $2.25
million dollar iBelong advocacy/marketing campaign this month.
Commercials have begun airing on network and cable television during the week of
July 9. The 30- and 15-second spots deliver the message that credit unions
are for everyone, and feature a diverse cast of actors in various locations and
situations. The first ad focuses on the message of eligibility, with
future ads delivering messages of family-friendly; easy to talk to; and people
are great.
All ads have a call to action, referring viewers to
www.iBelong.org One of the features of the
website, My Story, allows submissions from current members of any credit
union, (including YEFCU members), who wish to comment on their credit union
experience. Members will only be identified by their credit union,
first name, and initial letter of last name.

NCUA Phishing Scam Targets Members
Credit unions are reporting that members are again receiving
phishing e-mails that appear to be sent from NCUA. The message includes
NCUA's logo and is addressed to "Credit union holder account."
The first paragraph states, "Your credit union has joined our
Federal Credit Union (FCU) network. For both, our and your security, we
are asking you to activate an online account on our database. After
activation you can login on our system with your SSN and your Credit/Debit PIN
number."
The message includes a link to the "FCU activation page" and
concludes with "National Credit Union Administration Team apologize for any
inconvenience."
NCUA does not not ask credit union members for
personal account information. Anyone who has received a fraudulent
phishing e-mail purportedly from NCUA should forward the entire email message to
Phishing@ncua.gov.

YEFCU Reaches
$100 Million Loaned
August 3, 2005 -From the day York
Educational Federal Credit Union was chartered in April, 1969 through Wednesday
August 3rd, 2005, your credit union has loaned our members $100,000,000.00.
To celebrate the event, we have been holding $100 drawings until we reached our goal.
To be entered in the contest, each member who borrowed money, received a coupon
for each $1,000 borrowed. On the last day of each month, a coupon was drawn, and that lucky borrower received
$100 deposited into their account. The contest continued each month until
we met our goal.
In the month we reach our goal, a final
drawing was held for another $100, AND the member whose loan is the one that
takes us over $100 million also received $100 deposited into their account.
If you have been thinking about a new car or
truck, home improvements, vacation, college tuition or any loan for any purpose,
now is still a good time to join in the fun.
YEFCU loan rates remain incredibly low. Talk to one of our loan officers
and she can arrange the best rate and payment terms for you.

April 27, 2005 -Recently, there have been multiple "Phishing” scams that were
initiated via email sent to both the general public and to some credit union
members that appeared to be from NCUA. This false email asked for the recipient
to click on a link to verify their account registration. If the recipient
proceeded to do so, the link directed them to a false website and asked for
their credit union account number and PIN.
NCUA was alerted to this scam over the weekend. The website was shut down this
morning. However, you should be aware that these types of fraudulent schemes
have a habit of reappearing in a same or similar fashion.
If any of your members responded to this or a similar email and provided any
confidential account information, they may notify your credit union of the
scheme. Your credit union should assist members in changing their account’s
PIN, as well as any other action you think necessary to protect their account.
You may also want to consider warning your members of this and other similar
schemes.
For more information, including how your members can report this crime, go to
http://www.cybercrime.gov. You may also contact the NCUA Fraud
Hotline at 1-800-827-9650.

Top 10 Tips For Avoiding Identity Theft
As identity theft continues to increase, protecting your
private information is now more important than ever. Here are 10 helpful
tips which may reduce your exposure to becoming an identity theft victim:
- Shred old financial documents containing your private
information.
- Avoid carrying any cards with your Social Security number,
and don't write your Social Security number on your checks.
- Pick up your mail as soon as possible after delivery or use
a lockable mailbox. Visit the Post Office to mail outgoing bills and
checks.
- Take ATM or other receipts with you.
- Keep an eye on your credit card at all times, or pay with
cash.
- If anyone calls you unexpectedly and asks for private
information, don't reveal it. Contact the company yourself for
confirmation before revealing private information.
- Remove your name from marketing lists. Call the
Do-Not-Call-Registry at 888-382-1222, cut down on junk mail and opt out of
credit card solicitations.
- Ask merchants if giving out your Social Security number or
driver's license is really necessary.
- Check your credit report annually to check for suspicious
activity. Free annual credit reports will be available to all Americans
from the credit bureau as of 09/01/2005.
- Review credit card statements carefully.
